As a pianist, he was regarded as a rival to Franz Liszt and has been described by historians as one of the greatest virtuosi in history.Rubinstein was born in Vikhvatinets (now in Republic of Moldova). He learned the piano from an early age, and made his first public appearance at the age of nine. He was taken to Paris, and then to Berlin, where he and his brother Nikolai studied composition and theory with Siegfried Dehn. Here he met with, and was supported by, Felix Mendelssohn and Giacomo Meyerbeer. He then moved to Vienna, where he briefly taught, before returning to Russia in 1848 where he worked as a musician to the sister-in-law of the Tsar.He began to tour again as a pianist in the late 1850s, before settling in St. Petersburg, where in 1862 he founded the St. Petersburg Conservatory, the first music school in Russia. He also continued to make tours as a pianist, and spent a short stint teaching in Dresden towards the end of his life.'))

Moltke wrote a number of works on military theory. He was influenced by Carl von Clausewitz and his main thesis was that military strategy had to be understood as a system of options since only the beginning of a military operation was plannable. As a result, he considered the main task of military leaders to consist in the extensive preparation of all possible outcomes. His thesis can be summed up by two statements, one famous and one less so, translated into English as \'No battle plan survives contact with the enemy,\' and \'War is a matter of expedients.\' As a young officer he earned himself an additional income by translating English books such as Gibbons\' The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire into German. Graf von Moltke retired from active service on 9 August 1888 and died in Berlin in 1891.'))

Ismail was born in Cairo, being the second of the three sons of Ibrahim Pasha and grandson of Mehemet Ali. While in power he greatly modernized Egypt, but also put the country heavily in debt. His philosophy can be glanced at through the statement he made in 1879: My country is no longer in Africa; we are now part of Europe. It is therefore natural for us to abandon our former ways and to adopt a new system adapted to our social conditions.'))

He was the son of a civil judge, was born at Constantinople in 1822. His father, a declared partisan of reform, trained him for an administrative career. In 1860 he was made vizier and pasha, and entrusted with the government of Nis, then made governor of Baghdad. From this time forward, however, Midhat Pasha\'s career resolved itself into a series of strange and almost romantic adventures. While sympathizing with the ideas and aims of the Young Turks action, he was anxious to restrain its impatience. During the reign of Abdulhamid II, Midhat Pasha became grand vizier, reforms were freely promised, and the Ottoman parliament was inaugurated with a great flourish. In the following February, however, Midhat was dismissed and banished for supposed complicity in the murder of Abdul Aziz. He then visited various European capitals, and remained for some time in London, where he carefully studied the procedure in the House of Commons. The last three years of his life were consequently spent in exile at Taif in Arabia, where he died, probably by violence, on 8 May 1884.'))

He was born in 1860 in Istanbul. He graduated from the Army Academy in 1886. In 1898 he was made the governor of Uskup and Monastir. He was appointed as Minister of War in 1908 and became a member of the Ayan parliament. He was the commander of West Armies in the Balkan War. He was made grand vizier in 1919 by Sultan Mehmet VI. Seeing that it was inevitable to make a deal with the Nationalist Forces in Anatolia, he sent Salih Pasha to Amasya for negotiation. He promised the Anatolian Representativce Committee that he would consider their requests in his future cabinet. Instead, he tried to take over the power and eliminate them. He had to resign from the cabinet in 1920 as a result of the pressure from occupation forces in Istanbul. He was made Minister of Internal Affairs and Minister of Agriculture in the 4th cabinet of Tevfik Pasha in 1920. He resigned from his duty in 1922 after Turkish Grand National Assebly abolished sultan\'s sovereignty. He died in 1932.'))

Despite the fact that his deposition following the Young Turk Revolution was hailed by most Ottoman citizens, Abdülhamid II can be credited for delaying the unavoidable break-up of the Ottoman Empire by at least a few decades through his ruthless and often repressive authoritarian methods in dealing with the secessionist revolts, and his cunning diplomatic maneuvers by using one European power against the other.'))

Gounod was born in Paris, the son of a pianist mother and a draftsman father. His mother was his first piano teacher. Gounod wrote his first opera, Sappho, in 1851, but had no great success until Faust (1859), based on the play by Goethe. This remains his best-known work. From 1870 to 1875 Gounod lived in England, becoming the first conductor of what is now the Royal Choral Society. Much of Gounod\'s music from this time is vocal or choral in nature. Later in his life, Gounod wrote much religious music, including a musical setting of Ave Maria based on the first prelude from Book I of the Well-Tempered Clavier by J.S. Bach. He also devoted himself to chamber music composing four string quartets. Gounod died in 1893 in Saint-Cloud, France.'))

He was first trained in wood-carving by the Innsbruck sculptor Michael Stolz (1820–90), who recognized his talent for oil painting and in 1860 introduced him to Karl Theodor von Piloty in Munich. On Piloty’s recommendation, he studied for a year under Hermann Dyck (1842–74) at the private school of the Kunstgewerbeverein, then under Hermann Anschütz (1802–80) at the Munich Akademie. In 1863–4 he was in Paris, but he seems to have been little influenced by developments in contemporary French painting. He returned to Munich, via the Tyrol, in 1864 and entered Piloty\’s studio, where he remained until 1870, working alongside Hans Makart and Gabriel von Max.'))

Liszt became renowned throughout Europe for his great skill as a performer during the 1800s. He is said to have been the most technically advanced and perhaps greatest pianist of all time. He was also an important and influential composer, a notable piano teacher, a conductor who contributed significantly to the modern development of the art, and a benefactor to other composers and performers, notably Richard Wagner and Hector Berlioz. As a composer, Liszt was one of the most prominent representatives of the Neudeutsche Schule (New German School). He left behind a huge and diverse body of work, in which he influenced his forward-looking contemporaries and anticipated some 20th-century ideas and trends. Some of his most notable contributions were the invention of the symphonic poem, developing the concept of thematic transformation as part of his experiments in musical form and making radical departures in harmony.

Of German-Jewish ancestry, he was one of the most influential composers of popular music in Europe in the 19th century, and many of his works remain in the repertory. Offenbach\'s numerous operettas, such as Orpheus in the Underworld, and La belle Hélène, were extremely popular in both France and the English-speaking world during the 1850s and 1860s. They combined political and cultural satire with witty grand opera parodies. His popularity in France went down during the 1870s after the Second Empire, and he fled France, but during the last years of his life, his popularity rebounded, and several of his operettas are still performed. While his name remains associated most closely with the French operetta and the Second Empire, it is Offenbach\'s one fully operatic masterpiece, Les contes d\'Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann), composed at the end of his career, that has become the most familiar of Offenbach\'s works in major opera houses.'))
